An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is unique in its ability to address multiple problems including: excess or stretched skin, stubborn belly fat, and weakened or stretched abdominal muscles after pregnancy or weight loss.

A tummy tuck is able to give you a flatter abdomen with a narrow waistline. Often a tummy tuck is combined with another procedure such as liposuction to effectively create the look you desire. Incisions are strategically placed to hide below the bikini line.

Procedure Details

  • Our surgeon will place markings, which may incorporate the removal of excess skin, skin with stretch marks, scars from prior surgeries, and areas of stubborn belly fat.
  • At the time of surgery, the abdominal muscles are tightened back into the midline giving back definition to your abs and slimmer waistline.
  • The lower belly tissue is removed including excess skin and fat.
  • Liposuction can be performed within the torso or any other areas to further smoothen the abdominal contour.
  • Your native belly button is shaped and placed into an aesthetically pleasing location
  • Our surgeons provide a regional anesthetic injection or (pain block) with long acting medication which dramatically improves postoperative pain and recovery.
  • You will be sent home with an abdominal garment providing gentle compression and support to optimize your healing.

Types of Procedure

Full abdominoplasty

This approach involves removing skin and fat from the lower abdomen, tightening the rectus muscles (rectus diastasis repair), and repositioning the belly button, after the skin from the upper abdomen is pulled down and tightened. This is the most common type of abdominoplasty.

Mini tummy tuck

This technique only removes extra skin from the lower central abdomen, without tightening of the rectus abdominal muscles. It does not require umbilical (belly button) repositioning. This procedure is only used in very specific situations.

Common Questions

Does the surgery require an overnight hospital or facility stay?: No. This is a procedure that is safely performed as a same day surgery, allowing you to go home the same day

Will I form a scar?: Anytime skin is cut, there will be a scar. All humans scar differently. If the appropriate techniques are used, and you heal well, the scar will fade to almost nothing over the course of a year and a half.

What can I expect during the recovery process?: You will return home the same day of surgery and be encouraged to walk that evening. You will be able to perform all light daily activities for the first 2 weeks. You can return to exercise about 4 weeks after the procedure. You will have a drainage tube to reduce swelling, chances of infection, and expedite your healing process. This will be taken out usually in your first or second postoperative appointment. You can also schedule lymphatic massage sessions to further improve your healing process. You will see an immediate improvement to shape and contour of your abdominal area after surgery, which will only refine in the next 3 months after your procedure.
