Transformative Ear Aesthetics for Confident Expression

Otoplasty, also known as ear pinning, is typically performed for large ears, protruding ears, and misshapen ears to reshape, and bring the ears closer toward the head to provide a more natural appearance.

The otoplasty procedure entails shaping the ear cartilage using sutures (hidden stitches) and bringing the ear closer towards the head. The incisions are placed within the folds behind the ear, which is hidden from view allowing for imperceptible incisions.

Large and prominent ears can lead to self consciousness and in childhood may sometimes result in bullying. The correction of large and prominent ears is performed via otoplasty. Specialized Plastic Surgery offers otoplasty from children as young as 5 years old to adults. It can be completed under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia.

The recovery from otoplasty is usually straightforward with virtually none to minimal pain. A head dressing will typically be removed the first week after surgery. You may experience bruising and swelling. The bruising usually resolves within two weeks, and any remnant swelling in the ear will progressively improve over the next several weeks.

Common Questions

What is the typical recovery time after otoplasty?: The recovery period varies, but patients can usually expect some swelling and mild discomfort for a week or two. Most individuals can return to their regular activities within a week, but strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks.

Will otoplasty leave noticeable scars?

Otoplasty typically involves incisions behind the ear, strategically placed to minimize visibility. While some scarring is inevitable, skilled surgeons aim to create discreet incisions, and over time, scars often become less noticeable. Proper aftercare can contribute to optimal healing.
